Demba Camara: Bembeya Jazz National: Ballakè

I Bembeya Jazz la pubblicarono la prima volta nel ’70, con il titolo di Beyla, nella raccolta Guinée an X – Orchestres Nationaux (SLP8). Il brano ebbe un tale successo che veniva richiesto dal pubblico ogni volta che la band saliva su un palco, ma i Bembeya non la suonavano mai, in quanto alla canzone era associata una oscura profezia: chi l’avesse cantata dal vivo sarebbe morto “con i capelli neri”. Per questo, durante il pezzo, più volte Demba Camara invoca “la morte dei capelli neri”. Ma una sera, meno di un anno prima di morire, durante un concerto a Conakry il leone decise di cantarla. Chi nel pubblico conosceva la profezia restò ammutolito.
